In the 2022 General Election for the State of Hawaii, District 5 had a total of 16,140 registered voters.

Guess how many voters actually voted in District 5?

7,639.

Yes, letʻs look at that again. This time in bold.

7,639.

That means 8,501 voters either didn't cast their ballot on time, had "discrepancies" regarding their ballot, or just continued to be influenced by the same excuses of cheating and their votes not counting. The harsh reality is that these 8,501 voters all contributed to either putting in or keeping representatives in positions that donʻt REPRESENT the voice of their constituents. Yʻall can grumble, complain, and keyboard warrior all you want, but look at what that got us. NOTHING.

Ready for more numbers?! Letʻs go.....

Percentage of Voters in Each District:

District 1: 54.3%

District 2: 56%

District 3: 45.8%

District 4: 44.5%

District 5: 47.3% (YIKES)

District 6: 49.1%

District 7: 45.3%

District 8: 51.4%

Only 3 districts on Hawaiʻi Island saw at least half their voters show up (insert jaw dropping here).

Obviously we canʻt take back the past. But we can learn from it. Guess what we did for my son when he turned 18? We registered him to vote. He didn't get a car or anything fancy. Just exercising his rights. And it was free! In this day and age, access to a smartphone, tablet or device is a lot easier than it used to be. If you can surf the web or cruise on Facebook or Instagram, you can register to vote. Need help? I will be more than happy to help you register. Just ask ◡̈

We are nearly 2 weeks away from receiving primary ballots in the mail. Primary ballots are a little different in terms of voting as you must declare a party and vote within that party. Ballots that are not voted within the party selected, will not count. Primary ballots will move forward candidates who receive the most votes in their political party and they will make it to the General Election in November.

Registering to vote is just the first step in taking action and walking your talk. If you are happy with the way things are going in life, then continue to do nothing. If those numbers bother you just as much as the path our state is on, then do your part. Excuses are for the weak and right now, our state needs real action.
